In 1987, the dream of staging a fund-raising golf tournament to benefit the Evans Scholars Foundation was realized. Twenty-one years later, through the untiring efforts of many local Evans Alumni, this tournament has become one of the largest charity golf tournaments in the Tri-State. A few years ago, we pushed past the impressive $1,000,000 milestone of funds raised for the Evans Scholars Foundation by the Caddie Classic. Not bad for a bunch of caddies!
The inaugural event held at California Golf Course in 1987 raised $400 with a field of 60 players. Gradually through corporate donations and increased visibility, this outing has raised more money every year since its inception. In 1998, Provident Bank raised the ante on the Corporate Sponsorship and has continued to be a Corporate Sponsor for years. Key Bank put their name on the tournament in 2006 and 2007. This year’s sponsors include KeyBank, USI Midwest, Prosource, Print Management, and Coldwell Banker West Shell.
We could not have had the incredible success over the years without the generosity of many of the great country clubs in this area. In the past we have held this tournament at the Moraine Country Club, Kenwood Country Club, Western Hills CC, The Ridge Club, Miami View GC, Hyde Park CC, Coldstream CC, Clovernook CC, Heritage Club and Maketewah CC.
Please remember, by your participation, you are helping deserving young men and women get the chance to receive a quality college education for which they might not otherwise have a chance. On behalf of all Evans Scholars, thank you for your continuing support and generosity which will help us reach our goal to raise over $100,000 on this day.
The 2009 event was held at the Heritage Club continuing the drive towards $2,000,000.
In 2008, the Hyde Park Golf and Country Club hosted our event. Don Richter was honored for his support of the caddie program as well as the Evans Scholars Foundation at Hyde Park for many years.
The 2007 event was one of the most successful events and was hosted for the first time at the Moraine Country Club. The tournament raised over $200,000 in 2007 and a $25,000 donation to the Moraine Scholarship Fund was also made.
The 2006 event was held for the second time at the Western Hills Country Club. All of these clubs have generously donated their course and their facilities to support the Evans Scholars Foundation.
