A Little Caddie Classic History
In 1987, the dream of staging a fund-raising golf tournament to benefit the Evans Scholars Foundation was realized. Twenty-three years later, through the untiring efforts of many local Evans Alumni, this tournament has become one of the largest charity golf tournaments in the Tri-State. We have now raised over $1.3 Million for the Evans Scholars Foundation in our history. Not bad for a bunch of caddies!
We could not have had the incredible success without the generosity of many of the great country clubs in this area. In the past we have held this tournament at Kenwood, Western Hills, Losantiville, Miami View, Hyde Park, Coldstream, Clovernook, Heritage Club and Maketewah. We are pleased that the 2011 event will be back at Maketewah Country Club. All of these clubs have generously donated their course and their facilities to support the Evans Scholars Foundation.
Thanks to all our sponsors, Par Club members, our alumni and Scholar volunteers, and most importantly, you. Since 2003, we have raised over $100,000 annually to name scholarships for prominent local golf legends who have contributed greatly to the success of local caddie programs like Ells & Louise Widerman, Clark Eads, Bob Harrison, Dr. Lou Haley, Rudy Gimbrone and Don Richter. This year's honoree is Bill Rhodenbaugh–long-time generous supporter at Maketewah.
In 2011–a tough economy, we raised nearly $100,000 to help deserving young men and women get the chance to receive a quality college education for which they might not otherwise have a chance. On behalf of all Evans Scholars, thank you for your continuing support and generosity
The 2009 event was held at the Heritage Club continuing the drive towards $2,000,000.
In 2008, the Hyde Park Golf and Country Club hosted our event. Don Richter was honored for his support of the caddie program as well as the Evans Scholars Foundation at Hyde Park for many years.
The 2007 event was one of the most successful events and was hosted for the first time at the Moraine Country Club. The tournament raised over $200,000 in 2007 and a $25,000 donation to the Moraine Scholarship Fund was also made.
The 2006 event was held for the second time at the Western Hills Country Club. All of these clubs have generously donated their course and their facilities to support the Evans Scholars Foundation.
